Can I repromote my site? How often should I do it?

You can repromote your site to the search engines as often as you want, but more than once a month or so isn't going to do you much good. I recommend repromoting your home page and other important pages to the search engines "Once every month or two, whether they need it or not." The Multisubmitter Secret Net Tool is designed to make resubmitting all your core pages easy, but don't overdo it - being overly agressive might get your pages banned! There's also a "Search Engine Resubmit" feature in the pulldown menus that does the same thing as the Multisubmitter, but for a single URL. Finally, contributors have access to a feature that lets them automatically repromote a record every 45 days.

Search engine policies about "how much is too much" vary, but submitting 2 or 3 pages per site per day won't get you in trouble. The Multisubmitter does 1 page a day (unless you submit lots of batches!) so it's very conservative in this regard.

Remember that you should not repromote to a particular INDEX unless you know you're not in them. Basically, promote once, wait a few months, then go check. If you're not in, try again. Because it's usually a pain to check for your site manually, I typically advise concentrating on the major indexes (Yahoo, LookSmart, etc.). If for some reason you don't get into a minor index, it's no big loss.
